Irena Stanisława Sendler (née Krzyżanowska), also referred to as Irena Sendlerowa in Poland, nom de guerre Jolanta, was a Polish humanitarian, social worker, and nurse who served in the Polish Underground Resistance during World War II in German-occupied Warsaw. From October 1943 she was head of the children's section of Żegota, the Polish Council to Aid Jews.

Irena Szewińska was a Polish sprinter who was one of the world's foremost athletes for nearly two decades, in multiple events. She is the only athlete in history, male or female, to have held the world record in the 100 m, the 200 m and the 400 m.

Irena Krzywicka née Goldberg, 28 May 1899 in Yeniseysk, Russian Empire – 12 July 1994 in Bures-sur-Yvette, France, was a Polish feminist, writer, translator and activist for women's rights, who promoted sexual education, contraception and planned parenthood.

Irena Blühová was one of the first women Slovak photographers and one of the first photographers in Czechoslovakia to utilize photography as a means of documentary study and social commentary. During World War II she was a communist dissident, working in the underground to disseminate literature and help refugees fleeing persecution. After the war, she helped establish the State Pedagogical Institute and founded the Slovak Pedagogic Library. Late in life she returned to the pursuit of photography and participated in many international exhibitions.

Irena Renata Anders, born Iryna Renata Jarosiewicz (Yarosevych), was a Ukrainian-Polish stage actress and singer. During World War II she performed with Henryk Wars' troupe and later with the Polska Parada band, entertaining the Polish Armed Forces in the West. She was one of the first singers to perform the anthem, Czerwone maki na Monte Cassino.
