James Si-Cheng Chao is a Chinese-American entrepreneur and philanthropist. He is the founder of the Foremost Group, a New York-based shipping, trading, and finance enterprise. The James S.C. Chao Scholarship is named after him.

Jing Lusi is a Chinese–British actress. Her first television role was as ill-fated junior doctor Tara Lo in the BBC television series Holby City. Lusi was part of the original cast of the European premiere of Amy Herzog's award-winning play 4000 Miles. She has also presented for the BBC, as well as being the focus, for the documenties My Chinese New Year (2015) and Chinese New Year: The Biggest Celebration on Earth (2016). She appeared in Sky 1's Stan Lee's Lucky Man as Lily-Anne Lau and co-starred in the film Crazy Rich Asians, starring Constance Wu and Michelle Yeoh, and released by Warner Bros. in 2018 as Amanda "Mandy" Ling, Manhattan socialite and Nick's former girlfriend.

Liu Xiang is a Chinese former 110 meter hurdler. Liu is an Olympic Gold medalist and World Champion. His 2004 Olympic gold medal was the first in a men's track and field event for China.

Ma Yili is a Chinese actress. Ma ranked 42nd on Forbes China Celebrity 100 list in 2019.

Zhou Zhengyi, Known in Hong Kong as Chau Ching Ngai, is a businessman and property developer from Shanghai, China. Zhou profited from Shanghai's real estate boom in the late 1990s to early 2000s, and was once described as the 11th richest man in China, with personal assets totalling US$320 million. In November 2007, Zhou was sentenced to sixteen years in prison for stock manipulation and fraud. He is on the "Most Wanted" list of the Independent Commission Against Corruption in Hong Kong.

Fu Lei is known as China's most respected translator of French literature. He was known for his renowned renditions of Balzac and Romain Rolland.

Gu Shunzhang (1903－1934), also known as Gu Fengming, born in Baoshan, Shanghai, was a leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
